Secure your brand in the UAE capital and nationwide with licensed trademark agents. One federal filing protects your name, logo and slogan in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Al Dhafra and every other emirate.
To register a trademark in Abu Dhabi, you file one application with the UAE Ministry of Economy. There is no separate Abu Dhabi trademark register: the federal registration protects your brand in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Al Dhafra and every other emirate for 10 years, renewable. Mainland, ADGM, free zone and foreign businesses can apply through a licensed agent.
For the full federal process, see our guide to trademark registration in UAE.
The trade name approved when your Abu Dhabi licence is issued identifies your licensed entity in Abu Dhabi only. It does not give exclusive rights over a logo, product range or slogan.
A Ministry of Economy trademark gives exclusive, enforceable rights across the UAE. Tenders, distribution agreements and franchise deals in Abu Dhabi commonly ask for the registration certificate, so register before you sign.
Companies registered in ADGM, KEZAD (Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi), Masdar City Free Zone or twofour54 also register trademarks with the UAE Ministry of Economy. ADGM's common-law framework governs the company, but brand rights in the UAE come from the federal trademark register.
We advise holding structures on whether the holding company or the operating company should own the mark, so licensing, investment and future exits stay clean.
Without objections or oppositions, the process typically takes 4 to 8 months.
Government fees are the same in Abu Dhabi as in Dubai or any other emirate, because they are set federally per class. See the current fee table on our UAE trademark fees page. We give a fixed professional-fee quote after the availability search.
Registered owners can act against counterfeits through complaints to the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, record their mark with customs to stop infringing goods at Khalifa Port and Abu Dhabi's airports, and bring proceedings before the Abu Dhabi courts, or ADGM Courts where they have jurisdiction.
